Canterbury Museum, in Christchurch’s Cultural Precinct, is housed in a beautiful stone building that was first opened in 1870.

The Museum is world renowned for its natural and human history collections and has a changing programme of exhibitions and events complementing the permanent displays.


The School of Fine Arts provides a range of public spaces for the University of Canterbury to stage a diverse range of arts and cultural programmes through exhibitions, performances and events for the promotion, education and enjoyment of the arts by the university and the wider Canterbury communities.

"At CoCA we enjoy a rich and proud history. Formed in 1880 as the Canterbury Society of Arts (CSA), we were the first organisation in Christchurch to exhibit and collect works of art.

Our gallery was based on a simple premise: that the making of art by artists could be supported by regularly exhibiting art in Christchurch; it's what was true in 1880 and remains true for us today".

The Physics Room is a contemporary art space dedicated to developing and promoting contemporary art and critical discourse in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Based in central Christchurch since 1996, we assist art practitioners with resources and opportunities to achieve a higher level of professional and creative development, and encourage a greater acknowledgement, understanding and value of contemporary art among New Zealanders. Our goal is to actively seek links between the arts and other areas of cultural production and to involve art as a contributing voice in wider intellectual, social and political debate.

The Physics Room is a charitable trust governed by a Board of Trustees.

Situated in Christchurch, New Zealand, PG gallery192 is a dealer gallery representing leading contemporary New Zealand artists of diverse practice. It is directed by artists Marian Maguire and Nigel Buxton while the day to day running of the gallery is assisted by Polly Gilroy.

PG gallery192 is housed in a converted villa on Bealey Avenue. The villa was significantly transformed post-quake and re-opened in March, 2015.

Operating separately, at the rear of the property, is PaperGraphica Print Studio.
